Ceaseless Amazement

Today’s reading:

My Selection:

And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”

Mark 15:37-39

Much happened when Jesus died.

  1. A unique death. From the perspective of a Roman centurion, a Man had died like no other.  He professed belief with the words, “Truly this man was the Son of God.”

  2. A strange occurrence. The temple curtain was torn in two.  Jesus by His death opened the way into the holy of holies, the sacred inner court previously restricted to all but the high priest on the Day of Atonement.

  3. Eternal redemption.  “[Jesus] entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption” Hebrews 9:12.

Amazement.  Now and forever.

Jesus’ death meant the end of ritual offerings that had to be repeated daily.  His death brought an eternal redemption for all who believe in Him.

Let that reality cause you amazement.  Now and forever.
