My dad (SGT. John M. Carroll) served in the US Army 20th armored infantry in Europe during WWII. It took a couple weeks for him to get the letter announcing my birth (02-28-1945) but his friend R.E. Vaughn Jr. drew this funny cartoon of what happened when the letter finally arrived. Yeah, it's my birthday and I am grateful for my mom who gave birth to her firstborn while her husband was fighting the Nazis and for my dad who missed the first six months of my life. And yes, I really am that old.
